American luxury fashion brand
Polo Ralph Lauren has unveiled a new limited-edition collection honoring the small Martha's Vineyard town of Oak Bluffs that has long been home to African American communities.
Conceptualized and designed by Morehouse and Spelman alumni at Ralph Lauren, the capsule comprises of Men's and women's styles of classic, nautical-inspired pieces such as collegiate baseball caps, sun-faded knits, heirloom sweaters, sailing-worthy jackets, and accessories. Standout pieces include a maroon-and-white satin varsity jacket with Morehouse's Maroon Tiger, an ivory-and-light blue patchwork cardigan with Spelman's jaguar mascot, a quilted patchwork jacket and matching quilted blanket.
The collection is brought to life with a short documentary film 'A Portrait of the American Dream: Oak Bluffs' by author, director and producer Cole Brown who brought decades of memories from summers spent on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts to the project. Set against historic backdrops it features life on-island stories of the Oak Bluffs community such as seasonal visitors; year-round residents; multi-generational homeowners; local business owners; community historians; faculty, students and alumni from Morehouse and Spelman. Campaign Imagery was photographed by Nadine Ijewere with video footage shot by Azariah Bjorvig.
'This collection is about more than a charming coastal town; it's a story of the American dream. Oak Bluffs unique history, traditions and sense of community deeply inspire me and speak to what we are all searching for - a place where you can be free, uncontrived, joyful and truly at home,' Ralph Lauren, Executive Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of Ralph Lauren Corporation said in a press release.
The Polo Ralph Lauren Oak Bluffs collection is available to shop globally now on RalphLauren.com, the Ralph Lauren App, in Morehouse College and Spelman College Follett campus bookstores and in select Ralph Lauren stores.
