Following his
appointment as Dior's Creative Director of women's, men's, and haute couture collections, Jonathan Anderson unveiled his debut collection for the house during Paris Fashion Week.
Held at the Hotel des Invalides, on June 27, 2025, the collection was presented against a minimalist backdrop inspired by Berlin's Gemaldegalerie and adorned with two Jean Simeon Chardin still lifes - Le Panier de fraises from the Louvre collections, and Un vase de fleurs, on loan from the National Galleries of Scotland.
The collection opened with a forest green Donegal tweed Bar jacket - Dior's iconic women's wear silhouette reimagined for men and paired with intricately pleated cargo shorts. This interplay of archival femininity with modern masculinity was based on three Dior couture dresses - Caprice, Cigale, and Delft.
Blurring the boundaries between day and night are Modern-day tailcoats and 18th and 19th century French waistcoats in silk moire and mauve, paired with casual elements like faded Japanese denim and untied sneakers. Bow ties, stoles and striped ties are slipped on the neck, while round-toed loafers and high-top boxing sneakers reimagine indoor style for the outdoors.
Worn over the shoulder, the Dior Book Tote is reimagined as literary book covers such as Bonjour Tristesse by Francoise Sagan, Dracula, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, and In Cold Blood while the Lady Dior bag is revisited by textile artist Sheila Hicks with a nest of line ponytails.
Anderson's Dior debut was an elegant and intimate show, marking a transformative moment for the storied fashion house, balancing it's legacy with his creativity, by blending historical opulence with contemporary irreverence. A bold yet reverent recoding of its heritage, and an ode to imagination, it laid the foundation for his upcoming womenswear debut is expected during Paris Fashion Week in October 2025.
